7/17 (Mon.) Peninsula League Fall Ball formation meeting 7:30pm at Roundtable Pizza on 42nd Avenue in San Mateo. Not mandatory for coaches, but very informative.
7/20 (Thurs.) Coaching applications for the "Core 5" coaches/players are due to BRSYSA@yahoo.com for Board approval.
7/27 (Thurs.) 1st Skills assessment for 6U and 8U (6pm) on McD2 & 10U (6pm) and 12U (7:15pm) on Bal Kay Field at McDougal Park, 1402 Solana Drive, Belmont.
8/6 (Sun.) 2nd Skills assessment for 6U and 8U (4pm) on McD2 & 10U (4pm) and 12U (5:15pm) on Bal Kay Field
Week of 8/10 drafts complete
Practice begins following drafts.
9/8-9/10 Opening weekend; 12U typically plays Fri/Sat. evening double headers, younger divisions play double headers on Sundays.
Optional: Tournament for Toys charity event (super fun) weekend of (12/2 or 12/9)
"Core 5" Team Formation Basics
Teams will be formed through the familiar skills assessment and draft process. Fall Ball will be a "Core 5" draft, whereas Spring Ball is "Core 2." That is to say, a 5 parent/player coaching core can form a nucleus of a team, whereas in Spring, the coaching core is 2 parents with their 2 daughters.
As in Spring, coaching cores will apply for board approval.
Please note that school-based rosters are encouraged.
Costs will be similar to Spring. Note that no player shall be excluded for financial reasons. Scholarships are available through the generosity of past BRSYSA families. Discretion is assured.
Here is the specific wording we approved for sections 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 of the bylaws:
7.1 Team Formation Fall Ball teams may form with as few as 9 players per team. Roster sizes over 12 players shall be allowed only with approval of the Board. In the event that registration numbers allow formation of more than one team in an age division, coaches are encouraged to form teams to compete at the Gold (generally second year players) or Silver (generally first year players) level, as appropriate.
7.2 League Advancement Fall Ball participants are generally encouraged to play in the age division in which they will play in the following spring. Players may remain in a younger age division at the discretion of the Board.
7.3 Draft Assignment of Team Staff Daughters Daughters of the 1) Manager, 2) Head Coach, 3) Assistant Coach, 4) Team Parent and 5) Uniform Coordinator will be assigned to their team prior to the draft. Coaches are encouraged to consider buddy/carpool requests when drafting.
